Battle Cat was the loyal and mighty steed used by He-Man to protect the planet Eternia.

Biography[]

The first meeting between the mighty Battle Cat and He-Man was not depicted in the early minicomics. Instead, He-Man is seen riding Battle Cat at the start of the second story, King of Castle Grayskull.

When Mer-Man attacked He-Man at his home upon the hardest rock on Eternia, Battle Cat came to his master and friend's rescue, but was unable to protect him from Mer-Man's blade, as He-Man was not wearing his forcefield garment. Skeletor retrieved one half of the Power sword from it's hiding place under the hardest rock and hurried to Castle Grayskull. But Mer-Man foolishly stayed behind, giving He-Man the time to get into his protective gear and Battle Cat a second chance to attack the Ocean Warlord and turn the tide of battle.

Battle Cat carried He-Man on his back to Castle Grayskull, and remained outside after He-Man used his mighty strength to open the Jaw-Bridge and enter. After night had fallen, He-Man and Skeletor ended up fighting man to man on top of the castle's roof and fell over the parapet onto the ground. He-Man's super-strength garment absorbed the impact of the fall, and Skeletor was about to use his energy-blade against him, had Battle Cat nog lashed out at him. One swipe was enough to send the Lord of Destuction running.

Some time later, He-Man found himself without both his Battle Ram vehicle and his power harnass. He gave an animal call towards the forest to summon his loyal Battle Cat to him. Battle Cat soon appeared and took his master to their home to pick up the forcefield suit, then raced over to Man-At-Arms' home, seeking his help. As they reached Stratos' mountain, Man-At-Arms told He-Man to climb aboard his Wind Raider as Battle Cat would be unable to climb to the top. He-Man ordered Battle Cat back to his home in the jungle, and the mighty beast turned with a whimper, strangely out of character for its size and appearance.

Some time later, while relaxing with He-Man, Teela and their new ally Ram-Man, Battle Cat felt the sudden urge to venture into a cave. He did not realize this suggestion was magically forced upon him by the evil Skeletor. Inside the cave, the unsuspecting Battle Cat was knocked unconcious by the mercenary Tri-Klops, who needed to get the other Heroic Warriors out of the way before he engaged his primary target, He-Man.

Trivia[]
