Children's ITV was a British children's afternoon programming block which first went to air on Monday 3 January 1983. The world premiere of Filmation's He-Man and the Masters of the Universe cartoon occurred on Monday, 5 September 1983 when Children's ITV first broadcast the episode Diamond Ray of Disappearance.
While the series had been created to be shown in syndication in the USA, meaning five days a week, it was only broadcast once a week in the UK. Further more, the show would go on hiatus after a few months to be replaced by another programme. In the first year of its broadcast, only 4 episodes were shown during the month of September, and the second batch did not get broadcast until January of 1984. This year saw the broadcast of 30 installments.
Children's ITV also broadcast the world premiere of She-Ra: Princess of Power on 2 September 1985. However, the UK broadcasts did not include the five-part origin story edited from The Secret of the Sword and began with the episode Duel at Devlan instead. The She-Ra series would be broadcast until December, and the He-Man and She-Ra: A Christmas Special was first shown on 30 December 1985 in the UK.
In 1986, the two shows would alternate on Monday afternoons. He-Man being shown from January till June, She-Ra in July and August, and He-Man from September to December. Repeats of earlier episodes of He-Man would also be broadcast during holidays in the mornings, and later on in a new Sunday morning block, No. 73.
During 1987, the shows were moved from Monday to Tuesday. Otherwise, broadcasts continued in the same fashion as they had before. By 1988, both seasons of He-Man and the Masters of the Universe had been shown on Children's ITV, but only the first season of She-Ra: Princess of Power had been broadcast. At this point the episodes had moved from weekday afternoon showings to being broadcast as part of the Saturday morning magazine show "Motormouth".
The New Adventures of He-Man premiered on Children's ITV on 24 December 1990. This time, the five-part opening story was shown on five subsequent mornings.
