Evelyn is one of the main antagonists in Netflix's He-Man and the Masters of the Universe, and the alter ego of Evil-Lyn.

Appearance[]

Evelyn[]

Evelyn is a tall and slender woman, wearing a form-fitting purple outfit and a hood that covers most of her head but leaves her face exposed. She has fair skin, purple eyes and white eyebrows.

Evil-Lyn[]

As Evil-Lyn, her outfit changes, exposing her back, arms, and revealing her long white hair, while her eyes gain slit pupils and black sclera. Her hood now sports a pair of bat-like wings with a dark purplish starry void-like interior.

Personality[]

Evelyn is a power-hungry and vainglorious witch, seeking the Power of Grayskull to become the most powerful wielder of magic in all of Eternia. As a Word Witch, she enjoys the sound of her own voice and speaks with an eloquent and refined accent yet she is cruel, ruthless and will stoop to no low to get what she wants.

She feels entitled to power because she has worked hard to master her own magical abilities, stating it took her sacrifice and discipline, which led to her aggravated reaction that Teela "lucked into" the Power of Grayskull, meaning Evelyn felt she was far more worthy of the Power instead of the younger witch.

Due to Keldor's blatant statement that he had no intention of sharing the Power with her and Kronis and subsequently losing their chance to seize the Power themselves, Evelyn conspired alongside Kronis to overthrow Keldor, now going by the name Skeletor, planning to do so once they had gained the Power of Havoc from him.

Her arrogance however caused her to underestimate Skeletor's foresight and infering their conspiracy.

Biography[]

Evelyn was a Word Witch who struck a bargain with Prince Keldor to overthow the reigning King of Eternia, Keldor's own brother, Randor. Together with the Royal Man-At-Arms, Kronis, they staged a coup and engaged the royal guards. However, Keldor had not informed his accomplices that he also planned to kidnap his young nephew, Prince Adam, and take him to Castle Grayskull to take all the power of Grayskull for himself. Both Keldor and Adam were thought to have perished at Grayskull, and Evelyn and Kronis were defeated and exiled from the Kingdom.

Ten years later, Evelyn and Kronis planned to take their revenge on Randor. Evelyn had hired the young Hand Witch Teela to seek out various magical objects associated with Grayskull, while Kronis had taken on an apprentice named Duncan, who piloted their vehicle, the Wind Raider (Formerly know as the Dread Wing). Teela managed to steal the Sword of Power from the Royal Armory, but refused to hand it over to Evelyn. Instead, she made a run for it.

Although the magic sword made it difficult for Evelyn to track Teela, they managed to locate her in the Jungle of the Tiger Tribe. On their way to the village of the Tiger Tribe, Evelyn, Kronis and Duncan came upon a crashed Poacher Ship and various damaged Poacher Bots. Kronis ordered Duncan to repair them, and by the time they reached the village, they had gathered a substancial swarm of these Bots. Evelyn told Duncan to have the robots burn the entire village, but he refused.

Teela confronted Evelyn in battle, but had given the magic sword into the safe keeping of an adopted member of the Tiger Tribe and had cast an illusion to make it appear she was still carrying the weapon on her back. When the young man came between Evelyn and Teela, Evelyn realized it was Adam of the house of Randor. When Adam unsheathed the sword, magic runes appeared swirling around him, and by reading them aloud, he called upon the power of Grayskull and transformed into a muscular hero in front of Evelyn and Teela's eyes. His new powers were soon depleted in battle, but Adam, Teela and several of their friends were rescued by Duncan, who had changed sides, and escaped aboard the Wind Raider.[1]

Now without transporation, Evelyn and Kronis came upon a Royal Checkpoint, and decided to steal some Sky-Sleds there. To their surprise, they found all the Royal Guards at the station had been drained of their life essence by Dark Magic. The one who had performed this dark deed turned out to be their old partner in crime Keldor, whom they had believed to be dead for ten years. Keldor told them what happened that fateful night at Grayskull, when he had chosen a Havoc scepter and lost all of the flesh on his left hand. Evelyn revealed to Keldor that Adam had also survived the night of the coup.[2]

The next morning, Keldor had caught up with young Adam and introduced himself to him as his uncle, while Kronis and Evelyn watched from a safe distance. When Keldor learned that the power of the sword had been depleted and that Adam was unable to transform at this time, he grabbed the sword, blasted his nephew and told Kronis to kill the others with a rocket. After that, Keldor, Evelyn and Kronis resumed their way to Grayskull on Sky-Sleds.

The young heroes arrived soon after them, and Keldor allowed Adam to find the sword and transform into He-Man, as he was unable to call upon the power himself. Evelyn and Kronis swiftly captured Adam's friends, so that Keldor could threaten He-Man into helping him cure his affliction with the power of Grayskull. He-Man decided to share the power sith his friends instead, and Evelyn ended up fighting Teela in her new form as the Sorceress. Evelyn was shocked to find that Teela could now cast spells without using her hands or words. Keldor pulled both of his accomplices into a shaft of energy, leading the children to think that they had been vaporized, while in reality they had teleported to Snake Mountain. There, Keldor revealed his new form and renamed himself Skeletor.[3]

Evelyn proposed that Skeletor might use his Havoc Staff to share his power with her and Kronis the same way He-Man had shared his power with his friends. But Skeletor realized that the sword was made of Kirbinite, and the staff was not. Kronis knew where to find some more Kirbinite at the palace. Skeletor reanimted the bones of several dead creatures and turned theim into Battle Bones tp attack a transport carrying Royal Guardsmen. One of the Battle Bones brought back General Dolos to Snake Mountain, and Kronis used his technology to scan Dolos' image so he could pass as the General himself.[4]

Evelyn contacted the hunter R'Qazz on Skeletor's behalf. She returned the hunter's whip to him and told him her employer was impressed with R'Qazz's near victory over the children. She then offered him a job.[5]

Evelyn and Kronis planned to use R'Qazz in their plan to overthrow Skeletor. But first they introduced the hunter to Skeletor as his newest henchman. Skeletor took R'Qazz's whip, Evelyn's wand and Kronis' jaw brace and began to merge them with a stolen piece of Kirbinite. The forging of the Kirbinite caused a Havoc storm to form over Eternos as a by-product.. When he finished, Skeletor handed the three items back to his henchmen. The glove on top of Evelyn's wand began flashing, indicating the Masters of the Universe had found their location and were on their way. Skeletor was not surprised, saying they were walking right into his trap.[6]

Skeletor welcomed the young Masters as they approached Snake Mountain. After revealing his new form and introducing himself as "Skeletor" instead of Keldor, he shared his Havoc power with his henchmen, transforming Evelyn into Evil-Lyn, Kronis into Trap Jaw and R'Qazz into Beast Man for the first time. In this more powerful form, Evil-Lyn no longer needed her voice to do magic, but still enjoyed uttering her spells out loud while fighting Teela/The Sorceress. Sorceress invoked the "Wings of Zoar", but Evil-Lyn countered this with "Wings of Horakoth".

However, when Skeletor Havoc Power broke He-Man's Sword, all the Masters of the Universe immediately reverted to their normal selves and were captured and chained. At that moment the Red Legion of Eternos commanded by General Dolos arrived at Snake Mountain, but Dolos was under Skeletor's command and informed his master that the Legion had been upgraded to Trap Jaw and Beast Man's specificiations. Skeletor took command of the Royal Guardsmen with his Havoc Staff, and told the captive Masters to join him or drown in Havoc matter.[7]

After leaving the young Masters to drown, Skeletor and his new "Dark Masters" left Snake Mountain and headed towards Eternos. Before they got their, Evil-Lyn, Trap Jaw and Beast Man tried to overpower Skeletor, but he had seen their betrayal coming and explained to them that he didn't need the Kirbinite to share his Havoc power with them, but rather to be able to control them, just as it lets him control the Red Legion. The three "Dark Masters" would now only be able to access their new Havoc powers when Skeletor wanted them to.

Using the same kind of red Sky-Sleds as those used by the Red Legion, Skeletor and his Dark Masters entered Eternos. The new shield King Randor had ordered to be raised posed no threat for Skeletor's Havoc Staff. Inside the palace, Skeletor and Randor were finally reunited, and Skeletor was somewhat disappointed by Randor's unenthousiastic response to Skeletor's new face. When he heard Battle Cat roaring and realized the young Masters had survived and were on their way, Skeletor exclaimed that he wanted to have a Battle Cat of his own. He then forced Randor to watch the fight between good and evil as he and the Dark Masters headed into the street below to confront the Masters of the Universe.

The Masters of the Universe attempted to grab Skeletor's Havoc Staff away from him, and although the weapon changed hands several times during the battle, it ended up right back in Skeletor's boney hands. Skeletor then revealed that by now, all of the Royal Guards were under his Havoc spell, and that he had ordered the Red Legion to attack Castle Grayskull. Orko made the heroes, including King Randor disappear before Skeletor's eyes. Skeletor shouted that he could still track He-Man by the power of Grayskull, so, He-Man decided to de-power himself and his friends.

Shortly after this, Skeletor entered the Royal throne room where all of the Red Legion and the Dark Masters bowed down to him as he took his place on Randor's throne.[8]

Powers and abilities[]

Word Magic[]

Evelyn is a Word Witch, meaning she uses words to wield her magic and verbally cast spells. However, if she is gagged or otherwise rendered unable to speak she cannot cast a spell.

While her magic isn't as strong when empowered with Havoc, it's strong enough to take on a Teela empowered with Grayskull.

Energy Projection[]

With some spells, Evelyn can fire bolts of violet magical energy from her hands.

Flight[]

With a spell, Evelyn is capable of flight.

Dark Sorcery[]

When she is infused with the Power of Havoc and becomes Evil-Lyn, she can wield her magic with the skill and power of a sorceress, allowing her to cast spells without the need to speak or even use her hands (though she still prefers to use words, due to loving the sound of her own voice).

Wings of Horakoth[]

Evil-Lyn's strongest spell, it allows her to conjure a massive monstrous bat made of dark magic to attack her enemies, channeling the power of Horakoth.

Trivia[]

  • Evelyn is refered to as a "Word Witch", meaning she wields her magic with words, as in speaking verbal incantations. If she is unable to speak, she cannot use her magic. Upon becoming Evil-Lyn, she gains the magical mastery of a sorceres, negating her need to speak in order to cast a spell though she prefers to do so, as she loves the sound of her own voice.
    • Evelyn's spells are in Latin.
  • Although Evil-Lyn's magic has a bat motif, she ironically does not like bats.
