The Gar are a species of blue-skinned humanoids who live in Eternia. Despite several blue-skinned characters being believed Gar by fans, the only confirmed Gars so far (in Classics canon) are Sy-Klone, Ditztroyer of the Fighting Foe Men, Shokoti, Adi, and the half-Gar Keldor (a.k.a. Skeletor).
Masters of the Universe Classics (2008)[]
In the Masters of the Universe Classics toyline the term "Gar" was used for the first time. However in this version they depicted many inhabitants to look mostly based on Sy-Klone in the 2012 Classics minicomics.
DC Comics (2012)[]
In DC Comics He-Man and the Masters of the Universe #13 2014, the Gars are described as being a noble race of philosophers and craftsmen who came from Anwat-Gar. A thousand years ago, they stood as loyal friends to King Grayskull and celebrated with him at Castle Grayskull when he slew Hordak and banished the Evil Horde to Despondos. However, after the celebrations, the Gar Adi of the Council of Elders led a coup that assassinated Grayskull after it was prophesized that his progeny in the future would bring about destruction.
It was later revealed that Gar Adi was in truth King Hiss.
Fan theories[]
The term "Gar" is often mistaken to have been used in the 2002 reboot series. However, there is no such term used in the Official Series Bible by Mike Young Productions, and it is not in any of the episode scripts. The term seemingly was coined by fans after the series ended in 2004. As many fans pondered about Sy-Klone and his appearance in the episode The Mystery of Anwat Gar. Some fans came to the idea that Sy-Klone was the inhabitant of the island Anwat Gar and in search of others like him, resulting with the notion that blue-skinned characters are from Anwat Gar.
The question was brought up to 2002 series story editor Dean Stefan at He-Man.org forums:
Q: Are the original inhabitants of Anwat Gar Asian, Blue, or Blue Asians?
A: Not to dodge your question, but you'll notice that Syclone wasn't necessarily FROM Anwat Gar -- he was described as the last defender OF Anwat Gar.
So it was left a mystery how the inhabitants of Anwat Gar looked like, or any other specifics to them. However the term "Gar" was still used by fans to describe Sy-Klone, even if he was never said to be a Gar or from the island Anwat Gar
