Gorgon is a character from the 1983 animated series He-Man and the Masters of the Universe.
History[]
Gorgon was a short, round, hot-tempered creature who, with the assitance of the sorceress Sibyline, overthrew King Danton of the Isle of Tears. He was quick to imprison his own allies for disobedience, or to make his escape and leave others to fight his battles for him. Though Gorgon appeared to posssess no powers, he could project blasts of energy from his scepter.
When Sibyline had a change of heart and decided she no longer wanted to do Gorgon's bidding, he threw her in the same dungeon that was already occupied by Danton. However, Sibyline used her magic to escape and formed an allience with King Randor and He-Man. Meanwhile, Gorgon asked Evil-Lyn to take Sibyline's place at his side and together they attempted to seed doubts about Sibyline's defection. At the Royal Palace, court magician Orko remained particularly suspicious of the formerly evil sorceress.
When Syibyline returned to the Isle of Tears to free King Danton, accompanied by He-Man, Battle Cat, Man-At-Arms, Teela and Orko, Gorgon attempted to lock them in the dungeon and pretended that he and Sibyline had been working together all the time. Sibyline however refused to come back into his service and He-Man had no trouble breaking out of the newly reenforced wall. As the tide turned against Gorgon, he attempted to escape in a submarine, but was caught by He-Man and Danton. Evil-Lyn had already used her magic to escape at this point. Soon, King Danton was reinstated as rule of the Isle of Tears, this time with Sibyline as his trusted ally.
