He-Man is a barbarian from an Eternian tribe. He-Man and his friends defend Eternia and the secrets of Castle Grayskull from the evil forces of Skeletor.

Biography[]

He-Man left his tribe to fight against evil. On his way he found a sorceress threatened by a monster and helped her. The sorceress gave He-Man some weapons crafted by scientists before the Great Wars: a forcefield-generating baldric, an axe, a shield and the Battle Ram vehicle. After accepting these gifts, He-Man went to a valley miles away of Castle Grayskull and carved his home there with his bare hands. After finishing his home, He-Man was approached by Man-At-Arms, who told him about Skeletor and Beast Man kidnapping Teela and taking her to Grayskull to make her Skeletor's bride. They went to Grayskull, freed Teela and made the villains run away.

When Skeletor sought for both halves of the Power Sword, one half was under Eternia's hardest rock, where He-Man had built his house, so while Mer-Man fought He-Man and Battle Cat, Skeletor unearthed the half of the Power Sword. He-Man defeated Mer-Man after donning his forcefield-generating baldric. He-Man then went to face Skeletor (who had taken over Castle Grayskull with the Power Sword) and was caught along with Teela, but then he tore the dungeon door from its hinges. Both freed warriors faced the Castle defenses until Skeletor lost the Power Sword and fled.

After a later fight where He-Man defeated Skeletor, Mer-Man offered to defeat He-Man in exchange for keeping his weapons, which Skeletor agreed to. Mer-Man defeated He-Man and took the baldric and Battle Ram for himself. He-Man had Battle Cat taking him to Man-At-Arms' home, where they took his latest invention, the Wind Raider. An aerial battle ensued until the timely arrival of Stratos, who knocked Mer-Man out of the Battle Ram.

When Skeletor decided to take vengeance on He-Man, he sent Beast Man and Mer-Man to ambush the hero on his way to a meeting with Teela. After overpowering He-Man, Mer-Man threw him into the sea where he awakened surrounded by an undersea monster, but Stratos rescued him. The Heroic Warriors reunited and found the Evil Warriors trying to break into Castle Grayskull. After his minions were defeated, Skeletor fired his energy-blade on Mer-Man for his failure, but He-Man saved him. However, seeing Skeletor using energy blasts to punish his own minions gave him the idea of using the Heroic Warriors' own energy blasts to meke the Evil Warriors flee.

Trivia[]

  • In the continuity of the four earliest minicomics, He-Man has two identical power garments with different powers. One increases his already substantial strength, while the other can project a protective force field. In the text that accompanies these stories, it is often stated that He-Man has to change from one harnass to the other, and he occasionally loses them all together. The DC Comicss released in 1982 and 1983 made mention of the force field abilities, but dispensed with the need for the hero to switch clothing.
  • In 2015 this version of He-Man was released as part of The Masters of the Universe Classics (toyline) but he was named Oo-Larr.
  • A character similar to this version of He-Man appears in Masters of the Universe: Revelation.
