Hordak is a major antagonist in He-Man and the Masters of the Universe.

Appearance[]

Hordak is a humanoid with a vampiric design. His face resembles a bone-white demonic bat, like his classical design. His body is tall and slender, with the Evil Horde crest on his upper torso.

His wings are the same as Evelyn's and Teela's wings, bearing a blue cosmic space void texture.

Personality[]

Hordak appears sinister and subtly imperious. When he appears to Evil-Lyn as his true self, he calls himself an "independent thinker" and wishes for Evil-Lyn to be his herald, someone to announce the coming of his people. He displayed a protective concern for Evil-Lyn, as shown when he saves Evil-Lyn from Skeletor's hand, and later declares her his equal and his daughter.

This brief interaction shown indicates Hordak holds a calculating, scheming nature is conspiring against Eternia, and wishes Evil-Lyn to join him at his side.

Biography[]

Hordak's past is a mystery. He previously appeared in the form of the giant bat Horakoth that manifests from Evil-Lyn's "Wings of Horakoth". When the Masters and Dark Masters were fighting the cosmic-empowered Skeletor, Evil-Lyn summoned the bat once more; but Horakoth suddenly grabbed her and flew her away from Skeletor for her own safety.

Some time later, Horakoth dropped off Evil-Lyn in a desolate crater. As Evil-Lyn demands to know the bat's intentions, Horakath then engulds the area in red mist before it assumes the shape of Hordak. Evil-Lyn asks who he is, to which Hordak states that, like her, he is an "independent thinker" and offers Evil-Lyn to be his herald. When Evil-Lyn retorts that she is no one's servant, Hordak acknowledges this assertion and calls her his equal, before calling her 'daughter', leaving Evil-Lyn stunned in shock.

Trivia[]

  • This adaptation of Hordak shares traits with "Horokoth", the bat-like aspect of the Goddess the Evil Horde worshiped in DC Comics' He-Man: The Eternity War.
  • This is the first adaptation of Hordak to be a biological relative to a character that is non-canon to the original series.
    • Evil-Lyn's emblem and her ability to summon bats through the spell "Wings of Horakoth" foreshadowed this version's connection.
    • In the episode "The Tomb of Grayskull", the captions erroneously call the spell "Wings of Hordak".
  • Hordak's bat appearance might be a suitable reference to Kevin Conroy's famous character role Batman.
  • Hordak's lithe physique, red veins, and armor design bring to mind his incarnation from She-Ra and the Princesses of Power.
