Land of the Dead is the fourth episode of the animated television series Masters of the Universe: Revelation. It was released July 23, 2021.
Synopsis[]
Separated from her companions in Subternia, Teela faces a sinister entity who offers her half of the Sword of Power in exchange for her fears.
Plot[]
As the warriors begin their descent into the perils of Subternia, Orko begins reciting a poem about the effects Subternia is rumoured to have on people when they come in close proximity. Noticing a glow in the distance, Teela finds that everyone around her has dissapeared; she is able to hear a voice in the distance, however, and follows this with caution.
It is soon revealed that the remainder of Teela's accomplices have been transported elsewhere. Orko and Evil-Lyn find themselves in a place resembling Orko's homeworld, Trolla, whilst the others find themselves in the middle of a wasteland with an attack incoming.
After continuing her journey through Subternia, Teela finds herself at Scare Glow's lair. He appears and asks why Teela has come. Teela answers that she is looking for a sword, and Scare Glow quickly reveals that he has the object she is looking for. Seeing this as an opportunity, Scare Glow offers to trade the sword for Teela's fear, but she remarks that she fears nothing. Compromising, Teela agrees to be sent to the Well of Darkness where she is tasked to face her fear or risk being lost in the darkness forever.
Orko and Evil-Lyn arrive in the library of Trolla's Academy of Magic. Here, they are shocked to find that the wellspring of magic is dry, a clear sign that magic is fading from the universe at a rapid rate. Orko wonders if he is the last of his kind given the vast emptiness around the wellspring. After a brief conversation between the two, Evil-Lyn and Orko are taken off guard when numerous Trollans appear in the shadow forming a much larger being. The two are forced to flee when Evil-Lyn realises that she is unable to use her magic.
Having been thrust into the Well of Darkness, Teela awakens to find He-Man waiting in the shadows. Teela is surprised when He-Man draws his sword and the two begin fighting.
Meanwhile back in the wastelands, Roboto, Andra and Beast Man find themselves fighting beasts of their own. Andra appears to be fighting zombies, while Beast Man finds himself attacked by Fire Bats. Roboto reveals that they are actually fighting Shadow Beasts, which feed off fear and grow stronger as they do so.
Teela finds that her fears are quickly getting the upper hand as she is constantly beaten down by He-Man, and later by a younger version of herself. After a while, however, she accepts that her fear is not being to live up to her true fate. This allows her to manifest the dark side of the sword from Scare Glow, and his power begins to fade away rapidly.
After each being able to battle their fears, the magic separating the group fades and they are all drawn back together. Teela has obtained the dark half of the Sword of Power and relinquishes it to Evil-Lyn, who uses the sword to open a door to Preternia. The group are surprised, however, when they are confronted once again by Scare Glow. Orko is able to protect the group, however, but sacrifices himself in the process, allowing all other members of the group to make it through the door. Teela is heartbroken at the loss of Orko, but is interrupted by the appearance of Adam.

Trivia[]

- Orko revealing that his name is really a childhood mispronunciation of 'Oracle' is a nod to the 2002 animated series, in which the Oracle whom advised the original King Grayskull appeared to not only be Trollan but had the same voice actor as Orko.
- The monster that attacks Evil-Lyn and Orko is a giant, updated version of the Shadow Beast from the Filmation series.
- The three towers of the 1987 'Eternia' playset make their first animated appearance when the heroes enter Preternia.
