Madame Razz as seen in the Filmation animated series She-Ra: Princess of Power.
Personality[]
Madame Razz was a witch who lived in the Whispering Woods. She used her abilities to help the Great Rebellion in their fight against Hordak and the Evil Horde.
Being a witch she has spellcasting abilities, and is able to brew potions in her cauldron. With the aid of Broom, she can fly. Madame Razz is very absent-minded, and frequently mispronounces spells or forgets them completely, due largely to her advanced age. However, they usually have a tendency to work out for the best regardless. She is the equivalent of Orko in the He-Man and the Masters of the Universe series, both as comic relief and for occasional periods of wisdom. As such, Madame Razz and Orko have become good friends, after they first meet when Orko accidentally went through a gate to Etheria. Also, most of their faces are usually covered by their hats. Madame Razz is one of four people on Etheria that knows Adora is She-Ra; she also tells the tale of how She-Ra met Light Hope, the gatekeeper of the Crystal Castle. Although they share her secret, the two never interacted during the run of the series. Through her friendship with Adora, Madame Razz also knows that her twin brother Adam is He-Man.
History[]
Madame Razz and Broom were already part of the growing Rebellion against the Horde when they learned that the entire village of Thaymor was being put under arrest following a skirmish at the Laughing Swan Inn involving two Rebels. Razz and Broom hurried back to the Rebel Camp in the Whispering Woods to share the news. The Rebels decided to go free Thaymor, and Razz put a special spell on one of Bow's arrows to make it shoot fireworks as a sign.[1]
The Rebels managed to escape thanks to help from He-Man, but he was himself captured by Force Captain Adora. Back in the Whispering Woods, Madame was aided by Sprag and Sprocker to perform a magic spell with which to learn where He-Man was being kept. She was shocked to learn he had been taken to Beast Island. The Rebels did not own any flying vehicles to travel there, so Razz conjured up a flying ship. Her first attempt didn't look quite right, as she had mispoken the word "frying" instead of "flying". She corrected herself, which made the ship look more presentable. Glimmer teleported aboard immediately, and Razz took the rudder to steer the ship herself.
When they were near their destination, Madame Razz's ship was shot down by Hordak's Annihilator The ship crashed onto the island, but Glimmer managed to make sure all it's passengers were unarmed. She did however exhaust her powers in doing so. The group of Rebels soom came face to face with a giant Worble. Razz tried tried to distract it with a spell, but only managed to make the vines that were covering it's eyes disappear.
Glimmer led the Rebels into the Prison complex, wherein they met several obstacles. At one point, they were pinned down by two Troopers firing their Stun Rifles at them. Madame Razz attempted to put them to sleep with a spell, but mispoke and turned them into sheep instead. They finally found He-Man in shackles. Battle Cat jumped towards him, but was caught in a force field fired by Hordak himself. Shadow Weaver then used a spell to paralyze Glimmer, Bow and Razz temporarily. They were taken to a prison cell of their own. But Kowl had managed to escape capture and managed to free He-Man, who in turn rescued Glimmer and the others. They made it to a landing pad, where the Rebels took control of one of the Horde's flying vehicles while He-Man took the prison complex out of commision. The Rebels then picked him up and returned to the Whispering Woods. [2]
Behind the Scenes[]
- The character model for Madame Razz was designed by artists Herb Hazelton and Lew Ott, based on many different concepts provided by the character design department.
- In Something Old, Something New, Madame Razz mentions that she used to live in Serenia about 600 years prior to her time with the Great Rebellion.
- In Day of the Flowers Madame reveals her middle name to be 'Fancy'. Unless this is just a figure of speach, that would make her full name 'Regina Fancy Razz'.
