The Monster of the Depths appears in the first wave of Masters of the Universe Minicomics.
A horrible monster from the icy depths of the sea, this read creature was a vicious monster that resembled a giant octopus with a long snout that had fleshy tendrils on the end of it. It also had a ridge of spines down it's back and on it's tentacles.
The creature attacked He-Man after the heroic warrior had been ambushed ambushed by Beast Man and Mer-Man and thrown into the sea by the latter. Despite of his superior strength augmented by his power suit, He-Man felt himself out of his depths and losing the battle. Luckily, the Winged Master of the Universe, Stratos came to his aid. Stratos shot an energy beam that appeared to emit from his hand at the Monster of the Depths, causing it to let go of He-Man. The Winged Warrior then dove into the water to retrieve his friend and carry him to the safety of a rock portruding out of the sea.

- The creature's entry in the He-Man and the Masters of the Universe: A Character Guide and World Compendium states that it obeyed Mer-Man's commands. While there is no doubt that Mer-Man could have used his power over seacreatures to order this monster around, at no time is it stated in the minicomic story that Mer-Man had anything to do with this creature's attack on He-Man.
