Monstroid was the fifth issue of Marvel Comics' Masters of the Universe ongoing comic series.

Synopsis[]

In the Sea of Rakash, Monstroid rises, summoned by Hordak. Meanwhile, at the royal palace, Adam and Extendar bemoan Orko's lack of responsibility.

At the Fright Zone, Hordak and the other Horde members all use their mental powers to try and cause Monstroid to continue rising to the surface, but Hordak finds his henchmen unsuited to the task. Modulok introduces his new creation; Multi-Bot, and suggests using his power cells to enhance their own mind power and finish summoning Monstroid. The plan works, and Monstroid emerges from the sea.

Monstroid rises.

At Snake Mountain, Skeletor senses the rise of Monstroid, and rides out to meet him on Panthor, hoping to control Monstroid's mind for himself.

Extendar also sees the rise of Monstroid, and alerts Adam. While Extendar rushes to the shore to confront Monstroid, Adam transforms into He-Man and goes to meet him. Hordak transports himself and the other Horde members to Eternia, where they encounter Monstroid, but the Hordesmen are terrified and quickly run from the enormous creature. Monstroid attacks Multi-Bot, the only Horde member not to flee, but Hordak commands that Monstroid put him down, cementing his control over the creature. Extendar soon arrives and confronts Hordak; revealing that it was Hordak and Grizzlor who were responsible for giving him his extending limbs many years ago.

Extendar faces Hordak.

Extendar flies into a rage and attacks Hordak, but is defeated by Multi-Bot, who sprouts additional arms and legs and traps Extendar within his own body. As Hordak gloats, Skeletor arrives and tries to seize control of Monstroid. The two villains engage in a battle of wills, but Hordak ultimately triumphs and commands Monstroid to crush Skeletor in its claws. Skeletor is saved by the arrival of He-Man, but soon, he too is in Monstroid's claws.

Extendar, determined to save He-Man, breaks free of Multi-Bot's prison and charges after Monstroid, who begins to return to the sea, still clutching He-Man and Skeletor. Extendar uses his extending legs to follow He-Man and Skeletor into the sea, but Orko realizes that his earlier failure to help repair his circuitry may spell everyone's doom. Orko picks up Multi-Bot and manages to wrest control of the robot from Hordak, commanding him to fly into Monstroid's mouth. Monstroid devours Multi-Bot, but dislikes his taste, and retreats back underwater.

He-Man and Skeletor, free from Monstroid's clutches, swim to the surface, where Skeletor makes a quick escape. Orko apologies to Extendar and jokes he still needs to feed his fish; a joke which Extendar does not appreciate in the least.
