Painted Dragon

The Painted Dragon is a magical creature that appears in the animated series The New Adventures of He-Man.

The Painted Dragon was a creature brought to life by a magical spell, but only because of it had been created using enchanted brushes.

The painting of this dragon was created by the artist Helm on the planet Darius-7. It is unclear if the subject was a creature native to that planet, like other animals painted by Helm such as the Love Bird and the Snow Leopard, or if it was inspired by fantasy and myth. Helm had inherited a set of magical brushes from his grandmother, at least one of which he used to paint this dragon.

Skeletor first discovered the painting of this dragon in a shop window in Gorn City on the planet Denebria. Inside the shop resembled a cave. There, the Art Dealer answered Skeletor's questions about the creator of the painting. the dealer had only recently acquired this painting from Helm, who was on his way to Primus for a trade meeting. After learning this, Skeletor inquired about it's price and shortly afterwards, he and the Evil Mutant known as Slush Head were boarding a Space Caravan owned by Captain Tibbar to travel to Primus. They smuggled the precious painting with them in the cargo hold.

After arriving on Primus, Skeletor and Slush Head stole one of Tibbar's shuttle craft, and took the painting into a cave. There Skeletor performed a magic spell to make some of his own evil flow into the painted dragon and make it come alive. He then commanded the creature to go fly like the wind and attack the floating city of Levitan.

Captain Hydron and Lieutenant Flipshot , as well as two of the the Scientists of Primus were amazed to spot a fire breathing dragon coming their way. The dragon's breath was even able to melt the cannons constructed of Kritorium Steel, then turned around and headed for Master Sebrian's Home in the Oasis.

Master Sebrian was notified before the arrival of the dragon, and He-Man was ready to meet it, mighty sword in hand. Hydron and Flipshot were also in pursuit, piloting the Starship Eternia. They soon discovered that the creature was vulnerable to laser fire as long as it did not see them coming. He-Man then finished the creature off with a bolt from his sword.

The creature exploded in a thousand tiny pieces, and Gepple & Meldoc gathered several of the fragment which they identifed as some sort of pigment or coloring matter. After various other tests, Gepple concluded that flakes were temparic oil paint. The same kind of paint used by Helm, concluded Adam of Grayskull.
