Preternian Skies

In Masters of the Universe: Revelation, Preternia is the idyllic afterlife realm of great Eternian heroes, The heavenly paradise for legendary heroism contrasts with the hellish Subternia. The landscape of Preternia is dominated by Three Towers. The Sword of Power was forged in the Hall of Preternia centuries before the time of He-Man.

History[]

When the Orb of Power was destroyed and the Sword of Power was split into it's two original halves, magic left the planet Eternia, save for a few lingering fragments. The two halves of the sword returned to the dimensions in which they were forged: Preternia and Subternia. Two heroes who had given their lives during the final battle, Moss Man and Adam/He-Man were rewarded a place in the everlasting realm of Preternia. There, Moss Man became one with the flowers, trees and forests of Preternia, only appearing occasionally to offer wisdom to others. Adam was allowed to wear the light half of the Sword of Power on his back, as he had been the last hero to wield the full Sword of Power. He was also given the choice to spend eternity in either of his two identities, and became the first of the Eternian heroes present to choose the form of his lesser self. This lead to the other Preternians giving him the nickname "Flea-Man".[1]

Teela reluctantly accepted a quest to seek out the two halves of the Sword of Power and was joined by an ecclectic band of warriors: Andra, Evil-Lyn, Beast Man, Orko and Roboto. They entered Subternia, recovered the dark half of the sword and used it to open a gate to Preternia, but were attacked by the Lord of Subternia, Scare Glow at the last moment, and Orko gave his life so that his companions could make it through the gate.

Upon their arrival, Adam was as surprised to see them as they were to encounter him. After learning of Orko's sacrifice, Adam carved Trollan symbols into a headstone near the gate to Preternia and asked Moss Man to allow some Trollan flowers to bloom around it while the other companions left tokens of their rememberance near the stone. Teela left a scrap of Orko's scarf that she had managed to catch and Evil-Lyn her helmet. Adam offered the travelers his half of the sword, and proposed that they ask He-Ro to revorge both halves into the Sword of Power. He then sought out King Grayskull for information about a portal back to the land of the living hidden in Preternia's Grayskull Tower.

However, Grayskull was engaging in the Wild Hunt. A purple panthor was being chased by the Heroes of Preternia. Grayskull was in the lead, riding a Bionatops. Vikor and several others piloted Sky-Sleds while Kuduk and Wundar rode bionicly enhanced dinosaurs. Adam and Teela joined the chase on Flying Discs. Grayskull cought the panthor and won the hunt, then let the animal go.

He-Ro did not compete in the Wild Hunt, and Teela's companions met with him at the Central Tower to reforge the swords. Andra came up with the idea to turn the entire tower into one large forge, as it's walls were constructed from the nearly indestructable ore called Eternium. Roboto was attached with cables to four spires inside the hall, and Evil-Lyn powered his core with some of the last magic left in her wand so he could use it as a forge. At night, the heroes gathered around a camp fire. Grayskull agreed to take Teela and her companions to the Tower which bore his name and the portal to Eternia within it. Teela was still upset with Adam for keeping his identity as He-Man a secret and refused to tell him about the danger Eternia and the entire universe were in, even after he offered to give up the everlasting reward and return with her to Eternia.

Roboto reforged the two halves of the sword, but his core exploded, leaving him terminally damanged. Before his functions shut down, he realized he had developed a fear of dying, and in doing so had outgrown his programming. Adam decided that he would not let any more of his friends die, and to return to Eternia. The other Preternians reminded him that if he did, he would not be allowed into Preternia a second time.[2]

Some time later, Evil-Lyn obtained the Sword of Power and claimed the Power of Grayskull for herself, thereby becomming God-Lyn. While adressing all the people of Eternia, she opened a gate to Preternia and destroyed it, blowing all of the Heroes and Heroines living in this realm, including King Grayskull, Kuduk, Vikor, Wundar and Moss Man, to atoms.[3]

After He-Man’s battle with Scare Glow, and King Randor subcomes to a fatal illness, Teela attempts to restore Preternia to ensure the passing of Randor's soul to its proper rest. When she fails, her mother's spirit, bound to Grayskull after Preternia's destruction, advises her that the power of Eternia's three primal gods - Zoar, Ka, and Ha'vok - are needed to make it work, and sends her to Darksmoke, where the Staff of Ka is hidden.
