R'Qazz is one of the main antagonists in Netflix's He-Man and the Masters of the Universe, and the alter ego of Beast Man.
Appearance[]
As R'Qazz[]
R'Qazz is a grisly-looking man of below-average height. He is bald on top of his head while still having gray hair that extends down his neck and spine, similar to an animalistic mane. He walks barefoot, wears trousers, a mantle adorned with skulls from animals, and gauntlets outfitted with the claws he took from Cringer. His eyes are concealed behind a pair of red-lensed goggles, making him seem more sinister and less human, and he has scars on various parts of his exposed skin.
As Beast Man[]
Unlike his pervious incarnations, he resembles more of a werewolf than a sasquatch and wears armor adorned with animal skulls.
As Skelebeast[]
Beast Man let Skeletor turn him into the first (and only) skeledrone. Skelebeast would not speak in third person again, but he would speak past tense first person for the first time,
"Kitty was weak. And so was I." He spoke this after Cosmic Terror Skeletor left Castle Grayskull in the final episode, but this line wasn't the last we heard of him, because after Keldor said: "You have no idea what's on the way.", Skelebeast went to Leviathae and found the left arm of Cosmic Terror Skeletor, with the Havoc Staff still in it. He pulled it out and yelled,
"I will hunt again!", and that was the last we saw of R'Qazz, Beast Man and Skelebeast.
Personality[]
Ruthless and sadistic, R'Qazz is savage and bestial, taking a cruel delight in dominating animals and forcing them to fight for his own bloodthirsty amusement. He is spiteful and begrudging, singling out Cringer who was once in R'Qazz's keeping but escaped, stating to the tiger the next time they met that he owes the poacher a fight, and displaying a twisted delight in pitting Cringer against his lost family members, whom the Poacher had also captured and placed under his control.
As a hunter, he takes a predatory enjoyment in tracking his quarry and waiting for the right moment to strike.
As noted by Skeletor, R'Qazz is more beast than man, and indeed behaves like a predatory animal, and speaks in the third-person, often with a soft and growling voice.
Biography[]
R'Qazz was a hunter who caught wild animals and forced them to battle in his pitt. Years ago, he captured various tigers from the Tiger Tribe including Katuna, Prowler and Bash. When one of them refused to fight for him, R'Qazz removed the tiger's claws and began wearing them as trophies himself. He gave the tiger the mocking name Cringer.
Years later, R'Qazz's Poacher Bots still patrolled the outskirts of the Tiger Tribe's territory, ready to corner and capture any stray tiger that came into their grasp. By this time R'Qazz had not had any contact with other human beings for so long that he had started to become more feral himself and only referred to himself in the third person.
R'Qazz captured young Adam and Krass in a net and grabbed Adam's impressive sword. Armed with this, R'Qazz faced his former captive Cringer again, and was surprised to learn that Cringer was still going by the name given to him as an insult. Cringer explained that it was a more honourable name than "Killer". Cringer is reunited with Katuna, Prowler and Bash. Unfortunately, they are all under R'Qazz's spell and are ordered to attack Cringer. Adam and Krass came to Cringer's aid after escaping from a net, but Cringer called upon the power of Grayskull and transformed into Battle Cat without the use of the Sword of Grayskull.
Adam and Krass came to Cringer's aid after escaping from a net, but Cringer felt the power of Grayskull flowing through him to the new claws constructed by Duncan, leading him to call upon the power itself and transformed into Battle Cat without the use of the Sword of Grayskull, which was in the posession of R'Qazz at the time. Adam grabbed the sword and also transformed, together with Krass. Battle Cat told He-Man and Ram Ma'am not to hurt the three tigers under R'Qazz's control, while Battle Cat faced R'Qazz himself. When Cringer grabbed the hunter's whip and control device, the other three tiger's spell was broken and they returned to their normal self.
After his defeat, Evelyn appeared, carrying R'Qazz's whip. She told him her employer was impressed with R'Qazz's near victory over the children, and offered him a job.[1]
Evelyn and Kronis planned to use R'Qazz in their plan to overthrow Skeletor. But first they introduced the hunter to Skeletor as his newest henchman. Skeletor took R'Qazz's whip, Evelyn's wand and Kronis' jaw brace and began to merge them with a stolen piece of Kirbinbite. The forging of the Kirbinite caused a Havoc storm to form over Eternos as a by-product.. When he finished, Skeletor handed the three items back to his henchmen. The glove on top of Evelyn's wand began flashing, indicating the Masters of the Universe had found their location and were on their way. Skeletor was not surprised, saying they were walking right into his trap.[2]
Skeletor welcomed the young Masters as they approached Snake Mountain. After revealing his new form and introducing himself as "Skeletor" instead of Keldor, he shared his Havoc power with his henchmen, transforming Evelyn into Evil-Lyn, Kronis into Trap Jaw and R'Qazz into Beast Man for the first time.
Skeletor welcomed the young Masters as they approached Snake Mountain, using a microphone to allow them to hear his voice outside. He then allowed them to enter and lead them towards a room built for sacrifices. After revealing his new form and introducing himself as "Skeletor" instead of Keldor, he shared his Havoc power with his henchmen, transforming Evelyn into Evil-Lyn, Kronis into Trap Jaw and R'Qazz into Beast Man for the first time. Beast Man faced Battle Cat, using his "Necro Echo" attack to counter the cat's "Blade Wheels".
However, when Skeletor Havoc Power broke He-Man's Sword, all the Masters of the Universe immediately reverted to their normal selves and were captured and chained. At that moment the Red Legion of Eternos commanded by General Dolos arrived at Snake Mountain, but Dolos was under Skeletor's command and informed his master that the Legion had been upgraded to Trap Jaw and Beast Man's specifications. Skeletor took command of the Royal Guardsmen with his Havoc Staff and told the captive Masters to join him or drown in Havoc matter.[3]
After leaving the young Masters to drown, Skeletor and his new "Dark Masters" left Snake Mountain and headed towards Eternos. Before they got there, Evil-Lyn, Trap Jaw and Beast Man tried to overpower Skeletor, but he had seen their betrayal coming and explained to them that he didn't need the Kirbinite to share his Havoc power with them, but rather to be able to control them, just as it lets him control the Red Legion. The three "Dark Masters" would now only be able to access their new Havoc powers when Skeletor wanted them to.
Using the same kind of red Sky-Sleds as those used by the Red Legion, Skeletor and his Dark Masters entered Eternos. The new shield King Randor had ordered to be raised posed no threat for Skeletor's Havoc Staff. Inside the palace, Skeletor and Randor were finally reunited, and Skeletor was somewhat disappointed by Randor's unenthusiastic response to Skeletor's new face. When he heard Battle Cat roaring and realized the young Masters had survived and were on their way, Skeletor exclaimed that he wanted to have a Battle Cat of his own. He then forced Randor to watch the fight between good and evil as he and the Dark Masters headed into the street below to confront the Masters of the Universe.
The Masters of the Universe attempted to grab Skeletor's Havoc Staff away from him, and although the weapon changed hands several times during the battle, it ended up right back in Skeletor's boney hands. Skeletor then revealed that by now, all of the Royal Guards were under his Havoc spell, and that he had ordered the Red Legion to attack Castle Grayskull. Orko made the heroes, including King Randor disappear before Skeletor's eyes. Skeletor shouted that he could still track He-Man by the power of Grayskull, so, He-Man decided to de-power himself and his friends.
Shortly after this, Skeletor entered the Royal throne room where all of the Red Legion and the Dark Masters bowed down to him as he took his place on Randor's throne.[4]
