Skeletor's Ice Attack is a book in the Ladybird collection. Written by John Grant and illustrated by Robin Davies. The book was released in 1984.
Story[]
King Randor and Queen Marlena, along with Prince Adam and Teela board the royal ship Sea Eagle en route to a summer holiday in the Golden Isles. During the voyage the ship is spotted by one of Mer-Man’s spies, the Sea People.
Learning of Sea Eagle’s course, Mer-Man reports to Skeletor, who orders Mer-Man and his people to attack the ship and capture the royal family. Surrounding the vessel at night, Mer-Man’s warriors use zero energy weapons to freeze the sea around the ship and trap it in a rapidly-expanding floe of ice. Sea Eagle tries to blast its way out of the ice, but the ship’s weapons are rendered useless by the zero energy.
Adam transforms into He-Man and summons Man-At-Arms in Talon Fighter. Man-At-Arms believes Mer-Man to be responsible for the ice, having spotted many Sea People below the waves as he flew over from Castle Grayskull.
He-Man uses Talon Fighter’s weapons to collapse the side of a nearby active volcano, Inferno Island, releasing tons of molten lava into the ocean. Returning to the trapped Sea Eagle, He-Man asks Teela to use her psychic abilities to summon warm-blooded and friendly sea creatures. When assembled, the friendly sea creatures push against the ice flow, directing it towards the molten lava.
Skeletor arrives in the Roton and witnesses the ice beginning to melt as the trapped Sea Eagle is pushed closer to the volcano. Skeletor commands Mer-Man to summon Sea Serpents and other ocean-dwelling monsters to attack the friendly sea creatures, and prevent Sea Eagle from being freed from the ice.
However, more and larger friendly sea creatures arrive to help, including killer whales and long-tusked walruses. While they do battle with Mer-Man’s evil sea monsters, the ice continues to melt, freeing Sea Eagle.
Seeing victory slipping from his bony grasp, an enraged Skeletor directs his wrath at Mer-Man, who quickly withdraws beneath the sea. Too distracted at punishing his fleeing minion, Skeletor fails to realise the piece of ice he is standing on has broken away from the floe and drifted too far from the Roton for him to escape. Stranded on a rapidly shrinking fragment of ice and screaming for Mer-Man, Skeletor finds himself at the mercy of a giant killer whale.
Soon Sea Eagle is completely free and continues the voyage to the Golden Isles, while Teela and Prince Adam chuckle over Skeletor’s fate. In the distance they see Talon Fighter returning to Grayskull with Man-At-Arms.
