Teela is one of the main characters in Netflix's He-Man and the Masters of the Universe, and the alter ego of the Sorceress.

Appearance[]

Unlike her other versions in this Teela is portrayed as a young, black teen of short stature with golden eyes that glow blue when she uses her magic. Her hair is white, tied in a ponytail.

Her outfit consists of a dark blue long-sleeved sweatshirt, tight electric blue shorts with white and orange trim, and white gloves and shoes.

Sorceress[]

As a Sorceress, her appearance changes quite a bit—her hair becomes loose and longer with space-blue tips at the end.

Her outfit becomes tight-fitting white-and-gold armor with an eagle-shaped helmet—and she grows two large wings from a blue space void that she uses to fly.

Personality[]

Tough as nails and full of grit, Teela is a headstrong yet cautious young woman, whose life on the streets of Eternos have shaped her to be self-reliant, reluctant to open up or trust others, and she prefers to do things her own way.

Because of a voice in her head, she has endeavored to discover the secrets of Castle Grayskull, as though she is looking for something but even she is uncertain as to what it is.

Despite being slow to trust others, Teela has a strong sense of moral integrity, as she prevented her (former) employer Evelyn from harming royal guardsmen, stating they were just doing their job, and she did all she could to help protect the Tiger Tribe village since Evelyn and her partner, Kronis followed her there to take the Sword of Power.

Finding Castle Grayskull and getting a taste of the Power of Grayskull, Teela found herself at a crossroads, unhappy with the idea of soem kind of destiny being imposed on her and uncomfortable with using magic that was not her own. It took a heart-to-heart with the Eldress to assure Teela that her destiny was her own to choose and shape and that she had found what she was looking for: Friends, a place to belong, a higher calling, as the new Sorceress of Castle Grayskull.

Biography[]

Teela was a young Hand Witch from the lowar wards of Eternia, who was hired by the Word Witch Evelyn to track down various Grayskull artifacts.[1] At one point she was ordered to sneak into the Royal Armory to steal the Sword of Power. After using an illusion of General Dolos go get rid of the two guards stationed outside the armory and get the key from them, Teela sought out the sword with her "Trademark Teela Tingle". When she touched the artifact, an other worldy voice echoed in her head. At that moment, the two guards returned, but Teela cast a spell to make their helmets spin around on their head, covering their eyes, and managed to escape from the palace in a Sky-Sled.

Evelyn, Kronis and his apprentice Duncan were waiting for Teela at an extraction point. When she arrived with several guards, also piloting Sky-Sleds in pursuit, Evelyn uttered a spell to fire a blast of magic at one of the guards. Feeling that the guards should not get hurt for just doing their jobs, Teela cast a counter spell of protection, raising a shield to protect the guard from Evelyn's magic. Evelyn demanded the sword, but again Teela heard the mysterious voice in her head, saying it did not belong to her. While Evelyn and Kronis were distracted, Teela hid out of sight of them, taking the sword with her. The voice then ordered her to 'bring the sword to the champion'.

The search for this champion led Teela to the jungle of the Tiger Tribe, where she was surprised to learn that she was afraid of all the tigers, and climbed up into a tree for protection. When she slipped and fell off her branch, adopted tribe member Adam tried to catch her, but Teela used a magic spell to save herself. The use of magic alarmed other members of the Tiger Tribe to and the young Hand Witch was imprisoned by them.

Inside the prison, Adam tried to explain to Teela that the cats don't like magic, but he couldn't care less. Teela then told him that he spoke with an upper-class accent, meaning he was originally from the city of Eternos. She then inquired if there were any great champions among the tribe, as she had been ordered by a mysterious voice in her head to deliver a package to this champion. At that point, Teela's former accomplices Evelyn, Kronis and Duncan attacked the village, using reprogrammed Poacher Bots. Teela used her magic to make her prison bars disappear and handed her package to Adam, telling him to hide it for her and that 'she and her voice' would be back for it. She then cast a spell to create a duplicate package to make it seem she was still carrying it as she confronted Evelyn.

But instead of running away from her, Adam ran after Teela to rescue her from falling down a cliff. Teela threw herself upon one of Kronis' handcuff grenades and ended up with her arms tied. When she ordered Adam to get the real sword out of there, he unsheathed the weapon. The crest on his cuff interacted with the similar one on the hilt of the sword, causing magical runes to be projected around the blade. As Adam read aloud the magic words "By the Power of Grayskull, I have the Power", he transformed into the most powerful man in the universe in front of Teela's eyes.[2]

In his new, powerful form, Adam defeated the Poacher Bots, but knocked himself out and depleted the power of the sword in the process. Cringer and Crass took on Kronis, and were rescued by Duncan flying the Wind Raider. They also picked up Adam, who had reverted to his normal self and, against Krass's wishes, took Teela aboard as well. Teela convinced the others that Adam was as connected to Grayskull as she was.

The next morning, a large swarm of Poacher Bots attacked the young heroes. They received unexpected help from a man named Keldor, who claimed to be Adam's uncle. But Keldor soon grabbed the sword and blasted his nephew, then told Kronis (who was stationed on a rock out of sight) to kill the others with a rocket. Teela used her magic to keep an avalance of rocks from destroying herself, Adam and the Wind Raider with Krass inside. Krass managed to ram the door open just in time for Adam and Teela to enter the Raider before Duncan engaged it's engines by remote, freeing them from the rocks.

Duncan piloted the Wind Raider to Grayskull, who's secret location had been made visible by Keldor using the sword. Inside, Teela used her magic to recreate the form of a statue depicting the former guardian of Grayskull, the voice she had been hearing in her head. She also found the Guardian's staff, and Cringer told her it belonged to her now.

Adam found the sword and transformed himself into He-Man for the second time. Keldor had been waiting for this, as the sword would not work for him. Keldor threatened the life of Adam's friends and ordered his nephew to re-activate the magic chamber and cure him, or he would turn the others into cursed monsters like himself.[3]

Teela freed herself by picking the lock on her cuffs, and the children escaped from the chamber. He-Man pulled up a barrier between themselves and the villains, and decided to share the power with all of his friends. Teela became the new Sorceress and fought Evelyn. As a true sorceress, she was able to cast magic without using her hands or any words. When He-Man proved to be too powerful for him, Keldor thrust this scepter into the power emiting from the chamber and dragged his two accomplices into it, thereby making their escape.

After returning to their original forms, Adam mistakingly thought Keldor and his minions were vaporized. He was surprised when the spirit of the original Sorceress appeared and refered to him as "a master of the universe".[4]

Teela used her skills to piece together the broken statue of the former Guardian of Grayskull in the hope this would enable her spirit to show itself to her. When Duncan received a call for help from a squad of Royal Guards who's transport crashed in the Badlands, Teela and Krass at first refuse to lend them any help, but reluctantly agree. In the Badlands, Adam uses the sword to power himself and his friends up, but Teela preferred to stay herself instead of becoming the Sorceress.

They soon realized that the guards were looking for Teela and He-Man, and that they had been attacked by Battle Bones, bones of dead creatures brought back to life by Havoc magic. This made He-Man realize that his uncle was probably still alive. When He-Man's lightning attack has no effect on the Battle Bones, only magic, Teela accepted the transformation and defeated the Battle Bones as the Sorceress. The former Guardian, who know wanted to be adress as "Eldress" then appeared to Teela and told her she was no longer alone. After this, Teela was finally able to accept that she was now part of a team.[5]

Eldress began instructing the young heros in the ways of the Masters of the Universe. Teela researched the history of Orko the Great after Duncan used an old piece of tech to repair an RK unit, who then believed itself to be Orko himself. The young Masters returned to Eternos in search of RK-o, where Teela used a spell to hide them all from the eyes of King Randor. Unfortunately, Cringer's tail made her sneeze and the spell was broken. She then used another spell to keep the King from speaking long enough for them to get away. Together with the other heroes, Teela powered up to battle Colossor, a collection of armor animated by RK-o in the image of an ancient foe vanquished by the real Orko.[6]

Teela tried to use her magic to try and locate Keldor, but was constantly distracted by RK-o. Together with Duncan, she took RK-o to the last place any Trollans were seen. They used a Sky-Sled to get to this location, where there was a large statue of Orko the Great. By reading it's inscription, Teela realized it was actually a communication totem for any Trollans left behind after the real Orko the Great helped his people ascent to another dimension. RK-o was sad to discover he did not belong anywhere, but Teela and Duncan reminded him that they all belonged to gether. Teela promised to help 'Orko' become a better wizard, and Duncan to help him be a better machine. RK-o then renamed himself Orko and decided to stay at Grayskull with his new friends and honor the memory of Orko the Great.[7]

By now, Teela was certain Keldor wasn't hiding anywhere in Eternos. When Duncan suggested that she should boost her signal, she decided to use the Supreme Power Chamber to channel Havoc magic, and use it to locate the source: Keldor's staff. Teela approached the Eldress and asked her for help bringing Havoc back into the castle.

He-Man returned to Grayskull flying a Sky-Sled. Eldress and Teela had finally discovered that Keldor was hiding in the Fright Zone. They also explained that the storm over Eternos was a by-product caused by Keldor creating something with Havoc power. Adam decided that they should go there and face their enemies.[8]

When the young Masters arrived in the Fright Zone, they decided not to power up immediately lest they announce their presence to Keldor. Duncan was swallowed by a large Battle Bone in the Fright Zone, but was rescued by Cringer. They soon realized Keldor was already aware they were coming, and powered up before entering Snake Mountain. There they were led into a chamber of sacrifices. Keldor introduced himself to them as "Skeletor" and then shared his Havoc power with his henchmen, transforming Evelyn into Evil-Lyn, Kronis into Trap Jaw and R'Qazz into Beast Man for the first time. Evil-Lyn no longer needed her voice to do magic, but still enjoyed uttering her spells out loud while fighting Teela/The Sorceress. Sorceress invoked the "Wings of Zoar", but Evil-Lyn countered this with "Wings of Horakoth".

However, when Skeletor Havoc Power broke He-Man's Sword, all the Masters of the Universe immediately reverted to their normal selves and were captured and chained. At that moment the Red Legion of Eternos commanded by General Dolos arrived at Snake Mountain, but Dolos was under Skeletor's command and informed his master that the Legion had been upgraded to Trap Jaw and Beast Man's specificiations. Skeletor took command of the Royal Guardsmen with his Havoc Staff, and told the captive Masters to join him or drown in Havoc matter.[9]

Eldress contacted the Masters in the spirit plane after they were captured by Skeletor and sentenced to drown in Havoc fluid, to tell them they did not use their weapons to escape. The Masters managed to escape their bonds, but would not have made it if Krass and Orko had not come to their rescue. Duncan then used what was left of the Kirbinite to repair the Masters' broken weapons, although they remained unstable after Adam called upon the power of Grayskull to transform them all into the Masters of the Universe.

Feeling the Wind Raider was too slow, Teela discovered a new power of teleportation, causing the Masters to appear in the sky high above Eternos. As they began to fall, they disabled as many of the Red Legion's red Sky-Sleds as they could. Teela opts to go for the source of the dark power, Skeletor's staff and He-Man realizes Skeletor is going after King Randor. As they headed towards the palace, Skeletor and his "Dark Masters" confronted them, and the heroic masters attempted to get hold of the Havoc Staff. However, Skeletor revealed that he had now taken control of all of the guards in Eternos and had sent the Red Legion to attack Castle Grayskull.

Orko cast a spell to teleport the heroes, including King Randor, to a safer location nearby. There Adam de-powerd the masters, and his father told him that he had misjudged his son and that Eternia needed the power of Grayskull now more than ever. Teela and Orko decided to stay behind with the King to protect the city.[10]
