Synopsis[]

Having recovered his strength following his last encounter with He-Man, Hordak assembles a legion of Horde Troopers at the Fright Zone in the dimension of Etheria. The Troopers travel through a portal to Eternia, confronting Prince Adam, Orko and Cringer while they are in the middle of a magical sparring session.

A Horde Trooper attacks.

Adam attempts to transform into He-Man, but just as he summons the power, a Horde Trooper knocks him out with a laser blast. The Troopers return to Hordak with the captured Prince Adam, and Hordak is furious they have brought him the wrong man; not recognizing that Adam and He-Man are on and the same. Hordak sees that Adam has the sword of power and deduces that he must be He-Man's servant. Hordak attempts to take the sword for himself, but cannot touch it. Furious, Hordak sends Adam to the Slime Pit, believing He-Man will come looking for him soon enough.

As Adam is covered in slime, Orko figures out that the Horde Troopers wore Hordak's emblem, and transports himself and Cringer back to the Fright Zone. Though pursued by Hordak's troopers, Orko and Cringer reach Adam, who is now almost entirely engulfed in slime. Adam tells Orko to retrieve his sword, and Orko considers using the sword himself. Hordak, believing that Orko will not be able to touch the sword, just as he was not able to earlier, encourages him to fetch it. Orko, however, uses a spell to levitate the sword across the room to Adam's hand.

After getting the sword back, Adam transforms into He-Man and causes the Slime Pit to explode. He-Man quickly defeats the Horde Troopers, revealing them to be empty suits of armour enchanted by Hordak's magic. Furious, Hordak proclaims that they were now face the "hurricane of hate" and begins whirling his arms at a great speed, but He-Man resists. Hordak then summons another weapon, the mighty Mantisaur. He-Man prepares to fight Hordak, but Orko instead opens a portal back to Eternia and takes them back home, as Hordak swears revenge.

Behind the scenes[]

  • Orko references the first battle with Hordak, and states it was months ago. He remembers how to travel to Hordak's dimension after the last time he and He-Man were sent there by Hordak himself.
  • The dimension where Hordak's Fright Zone is located is revealed to be Etheria.
  • Unlike in other adaptions, where the Horde Troopers are robots, this issue shows them to be empty suits of armour which are animated by Hordak's magic.
  • Hordak is referred to as "Hurricane Hordak" by He-Man at the end of the issue, and uses the action figure's ability, but Hordak's appearance remains unchanged.
  • This issue reveals that no one but He-Man can touch the sword of power without being stunned by a magical blast. Orko is able to get around this by using his magic to levitate the sword.
    Orkoman

    He-Orko

  • This issue feature a comedic panel of Orko transformed into a He-Man-like figure, as he imagines himself after using the sword of power.
  • It strains credibility that Hordak would not have been able to figure out that Adam and He-Man are one and the same after the events of this issue; he finds that Adam has He-Man's sword, his troopers believe he is the most powerful man on Eternia and Adam disappears as soon as He-Man arrives and emerges from the Slime Pit.
  • This issue again highlights a number of toys, such as the Horde Trooper, Mantisaur, Slime Pit and Hurricane Hordak.
