The Sword Part 1 is the first episode of She-Ra and the Princesses of Power. It was released on Netflix with the rest of the first season on November 13, 2018.
Synopsis[]
Sneaking out after a training mission, Horde soldier Adora finds an uncanny sword in the Whispering Woods. Princess Glimmer wants it for the Rebellion.
Plot[]
On the planet Etheria, the Horde rules. Only the Rebellion opposes them. Adora, a young soldier with the Horde, believes that they were the forces of order on the planet and that the Princesses in the Rebellion are evil. With her friend and fellow soldier Catra, Adora takes a joyride to the Whispering Woods where she catches sight of a mysterious sword. Entranced by the sword, Adora goes back in search of it, feeling like it is somehow meant for her. While searching for the sword, she encounters two members of the resistance, Princess Glimmer and Bow. Threatened by a giant creature, Adora discovers that the sword transforms her into She-Ra, the Princess of Power.

Trivia[]
- Adora has an evil looking picture of Queen Angella taped to her punching back. However, she refers to her as a Princess rather than a Queen.
- One of Adora and Catra's fellow recruits is called Lonnie. This is a reference to the character Lohni from the original She-Ra Princess of Power series episode Friendship who had been Adora's best friend and second in command during her time in the Horde.
- The Masters of the Universe Classics toy line which began in 2008 revealed Bow's real name to be Kyle Reccula. In this series, Kyle is a separate character who is part of the Horde.
- The Etherian villages of Thaymor and Elberon are mentioned. Thaymor was first seen when Prince Adam visited Etheria for the first time in Into Etheria (meaning it is the first Etherian village seen in both the original series and the reboot) and Elberon was where She-Ra met Sorrowful the dragon in The Laughing Dragon.
- The Sword parts 1 and 2 were adapted into a storybook by Tracey West titled "Origin of a Hero" that was released on April 30, 2019. It features a couple of extra chapters to introduce the characters, and the name of the minor Horde 'Sergeant' is revealed to be 'Cobalt'.
